Drawing Workshops Think Tank lab Triennale 2015-16
As the main subject of artistic workshop performed during Drawing Triennale we established the theme of Utopia interweaving it with the theme of Garden. Utopia is considered both as a real place open to political and social changes, as well as a symbolic, imagined space, an enclave full of spiritual freedom. The wish to create a perfect cosmos in which you can experience the fullness of existence is often explained by the desire to return to the Eden. The theme of Utopia became interesting for many generations of artists, who have been consequently realizing the postulate of the autonomy of art. They highlighted the ability of art to perform real changes. It’s also worth taking a look at Utopia from the perspective of entomology. The word ‘Utopia’ comes from Greek “outopos”, which in literal translation means a “not-place” or “place that does not exist”. That leads us to the conclusion that utopia is something typical, a kind of an archetype of the unfulfilled reality, a target of the human being. This area of artistic activity is especially interesting as it matches reality with imagination. It fuses multiple universes, and it makes it a perfect medium for the realisation of different kinds of utopias.
