Art Academy of Latvia to host an exhibition RYSOPIS/DRAWINGS IN A HURRY
From March 15th the Art Academy of Latvia will host the exhibition “RYSOPIS/DRAWINGS IN A HURRY ”. The exhibition will display several works done in the drawing media, which show "...how the invited artists understand the passage of time, the phenomenon of continuance amid impermanence". The exhibition's organizer was the Department of Drawing from the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture at the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw and the team of the Drawing Triennale in Wroclaw. Below is an excerpt from the curatorial text.
"...Instant by instant, the world keeps unfolding in front of our eyes. No matter how much we would like it to stay, the present keeps slipping away while the clock hands seem to move faster and faster. This subjective sensation is shared by many people complaining about being in a constant hurry. The DRAWINGS IN A HURRY exhibition depicts reflections relating to our self-image as a reaction to the intensity of changes around us, what it is like to be a reference point, a pause in the daily rush.
By definition, identikits are based on images and imperfections of human memory, on a need to identify, grasp the characteristic features. Will the resulting image be sketched hastily and chaotically, will it become an atomized portrait or evidence of power? We are interested not only in works depicting human images, but also in those showing the disappearance of "the essential" in the times of excess, the loss of the whole, in works showing a fragmented reality. We are keen to see how the invited artists understand the passage of time, the phenomenon of continuance amid impermanence..."
DRAWINGS IN A HURRY is an exhibition of drawings and quasi-drawing works by students of the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław.
